Space Invaders is a classic arcade game released in 1978 and widely considered one of the first video games ever created. The game revolves around a tank-like vehicle attempting to stop wave after wave of invading UFOs from landing on Earth. The game has no real "ending", much like other games of the time and shortly afterwards, but continues potentially infinitely, with enemy ships increasing in speed and number as the waves are cleared. The game's popularity has earned it numerous sequels, spin-offs, parodies and a secure place in popular culture.
