The Tick is a comic book series written by Ben Edlund and published by New England Comics. The comics revolve around the titular superhero, a large, muscular man in a blue suit with tick antennae, who possesses the superpower of "nigh-invulnerability", making him impervious to suffering severe pain from almost any form of attack, such as a bomb blast or falling from a high height. The comics see the Tick defending the city simply known as "The City" from evil and crime, alongside his sidekick Arthur Everest, a former accountant who can fly using a white moth suit. The comics feature a slew of various superhero parodies, such as American Maid (a USA/maid-themed heroine who spoofs Captain America and Wonder Woman), Die Fledermaus (a big-ear bat-themed superhero spoof of Batman), and Sewer Urchin (a stenchy sea-urchin-themed hero and spoof of Aquaman). While the Tick is invulnerable to nearly everything, his dramatic personality, gullibility, and sense of justice serve as his biggest weaknesses. Some of The Tick's biggest enemies include Chairface Chippendale (an upper-class villain with a chair for a head), El Seed (a scientist with a Spanish accent and a sunflower for a head), The Breadmaster (a malicious baker who can bake dangerous, deadly breads, muffins, rolls, etc.) and The Terror, a supervillain of yesteryear who manages to still be in his prime at age 115.

Aside from comic books, the franchise spawned an animated series that ran from 1994-1996, a short-lived 2001-2002 live-action series on FOX, and a reboot of the live-action series that ran for two seasons on Amazon Prime Video.
